The Trustees of the Hargreaves Foundation are proud to announce a grant to Tutors United to expand their impactful tutoring programme for disadvantaged children in London. The funding will support 30 pupils with nearly 100 hours of free, high-quality literacy and numeracy tutoring over the next year, helping to bridge the attainment gap at a critical stage in their education.
Tutors United employs university students from similar low-income and migrant backgrounds, providing them with paid training and valuable work experience as they deliver tailored academic support. This peer-led model not only boosts pupil attainment - 87% meet of exceed their academic targets - but also improves the employability of the tutors, with 77% securing work within six months of completing their contracts.
The funding will cover tutor recruitment, training, wages, and key programme delivery costs. With rising educational inequality in areas like Haringey and Islington, the Trustees are pleased to support a proven model that uplifts entire communities through education, confidence-building, and opportunity.
