The Trustees are delighted to confirm funding for The Garth School to provide the pupils with new outdoor sports equipment. This equipment will enable the students to explore new opportunities and experience mental and physical health benefits.
The school is in Spalding, Lincolnshire and has a total of 58 students who range from the ages of 2 and 19. The school, which is rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, offers education to children with challenging and profound learning difficulties. It aims to provide an inclusive education, preparing pupils to take a confident and active place in society.
Research from Sport England highlights that disabled people are almost twice as likely to be physically inactive (43%), compared to those without a disability (23%). The new equipment, which will include Viking scooters, Viking Range tricycles and RABO taxis will support the development of pupils’ gross motor skills, teamwork and social skills. Overall, the school aims to see an improvement in the students’ emotional and physical outcomes.
This is a significant donation from The Hargreaves Foundation which shows the commitment the charity has towards transforming young lives through sport and education.
