The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to announce that funding has been awarded to Salmon Youth Centre, an organisation passionate about encouraging the development of skills and personal attributes to aid future employability for vulnerable/disabled young people, or young people growing up in unstable homes who risk becoming socially excluded. The Salmon Youth Centre has been operating in the London area for over 100 years, providing long-term support for those seeking meaning and direction in their lives.
Salmon Youth Centre is a safe place for disadvantaged young people that helps to bring meaning and direction into kids’ lives through a range of activities, including sports, adventures, the arts, work experience and residentials. This helps prepare young people for education or employment, improves their health and wellbeing (both mental and physical), and promotes positive engagements within their community.
The funding will help to develop and train the next generation of sport coaches/youth workers, focusing on individuals who would otherwise lack the confidence, communication skills or emotional resilience. Furthermore, the qualifications these individuals will leave the programme with will help them to secure long-term employment in youth work/sports coaching, relieving pressure from state resources long-term.
