The Hargreaves Foundation supports Team Oasis

October 2024

The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are delighted to announce that funding has been allocated to Team Oasis, a charity dedicated to ensuring children and young people of all abilities and circumstances have equal opportunity and access to sport.

Since their establishment in 2003, Team Oasis have been creating an environment where all children and young people, plus their families, can live, share, play, learn, and socialise in an environment of collective inclusive learnedness, awareness, understanding and respect.

Team Oasis will use funding from The Hargreaves Foundation to support their latest project which aims to deliver 48 multi-sports sessions to young, disadvantaged people under the age of 18. It will be delivered in groups of 12 and each young person will participate in 12 sports generally considered not easily accessible to disadvantaged communities such as fencing, sailing, karting, kayaking and abseiling.

Engaging in sport goes beyond physical fitness; it fosters mental wellbeing, resilience, and self-confidence, and for young people facing poverty, disability or poor mental health, participating in these sessions can be transformative. This project will build on the superb mentoring services that Team Oasis has developed, and every participant will be inspired to aspire, encouraged to explore their potential, and supported to realise that potential. Overall, the project will deliver 720 individual sports sessions over a 12-month period.
