The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are delighted to announce funding for Solidarity Sports, a charity offering specialised, individualised support to children and young people facing adversity and recovering from complex trauma in West London.
With a purpose to transform lives, Solidary Sports run an active holiday programme so that young people can participate in sports in an environment where they can foster trust and embark on a healing journey. Through participation in sport, positive role modelling and trust-building, children develop skills that build confidence, broaden horizons, reduce barriers, and promote positive mental health. Their commitment to supporting vulnerable families has a strong track record, supporting approximately 240 children each year, with 95% of their beneficiaries living below the poverty line.
Following 100% positive feedback from their summer project, Solidarity Sports will use funding from The Hargreaves Foundation to expand their holiday programme by introducing new sports, such as cricket, rugby and field hockey, and enhancing the level of specialised coaching. With research showing that school holidays are the most difficult time for children growing up in poverty, alongside a year-on-year increase in demand for their programme, this funding is expected to support 250 young people.
