The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to announce that funding has been allocated to North Tyneside Disability Forum (NTDF), an organisation that empowers disadvantaged people to live their best lives participating on equal terms in their local communities.
Disabled children and young people often feel sport isn’t for them and so typically shy away from participation. Those that live quite sedentary lives also have limited options for sporting activity, and this means they miss out on the social and notional fun of taking part. NTDF are opening opportunities for disabled children and young people to take part in sport through hosting Boccia and Kurling sessions which are sporting activities accessible for disabled people.
Having seen high attendance to these sessions outside of term-time, NTDF will use this funding to host a six-week summer sporting programme that runs from 9am to 5pm daily. Across the six weeks, children and young people will engage in various fun activities, learn how to play Boccia and Kurling, socialise as a group community, and receive food and snacks. With many of these kids often schooled away from home, they don’t get to see their friends during holidays; funding for this programme will help give children a friendship circle outside of term time.
