The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are delighted to announce that Inverness Rowing Club have been granted funding towards their programme aimed at increasing school pupils’ ability to experience rowing.
Inverness Rowing Club are the most Northerly rowing club in the UK and are aspiring to break down the perception that rowing is an elitist sport. Being located close to highly deprived areas, they recognise that people from local schools within these catchment areas will see mental and physical health benefits from participatory sport. Meeting with local schools to explain the benefits of rowing, such as discipline and teamwork, they hope to see rowing introduced to the school curriculum as well as an after-school option.
With funding from The Hargreaves Foundation, Inverness Rowing Club will be able to meet their proposal and purchase new training boats that will each serve the club for well over 10 years, alongside the coaching required to maintain safeguarding ratios and deliver first-class training.
