The Hargreaves Foundation supports Growing2gether

July 2024

The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to announce that funding has been awarded to Growing2gether, a Scottish charity that supports disengaged young people facing poor mental health, poverty, and adverse childhood experiences.

Their main programme, Growing2gether Nursery, is an innovative intervention proven to transform young lives (ages 13-15) through the positive work experience of mentoring a child with social/communication challenges. The 16-week programme combines mentoring in the nursery with classroom coaching in social, emotional and life skills, to build resilience and self-confidence. Completion of the programme leads to an accredited personal development qualification which creates a sense of achievement and re-engages young people in education. One Young Carer said, “I finally feel like I am OK as a person, I always thought everyone else was better than me. Being in this group has taught me a lot about myself and helped me to try harder at school.”

This funding from The Hargreaves Foundation will allow Grow2gether to expand beyond Highland to Dundee, Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire, and deliver four 16-week Nursery programmes that will reach 32 local secondary school pupils, mentoring 32 children from local nurseries.
