The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are happy to announce that funding has been awarded to Get Set 4 Tennis (GS4T), a non-profit Community Interest Company specialising in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) tennis.
Working in the most marginalised areas of the Hertfordshire community, mental health has become one of their largest focuses. They have recently partnered with The Trinity Project to work with thirteen schools, aiming to transform young people’s wellbeing and tackle mental health issues, including suicide prevention.
Planning to implement the Haven project, a programme underpinning Hertfordshire’s Suicide Prevention Network, they held a 20-week ‘Sport in Mind’ pilot programme where 300 primary school children participated in tennis-based activities while learning practical tools and techniques to manage mental health. With the pilot being a success, demonstrated with an overall 80% improvement in general wellbeing, along with findings from Herts University concluding that this programme significantly reduces anxiety scores, Get Set 4 Tennis are confident that with funding from The Hargreaves Foundation, they can implement the Haven project and support an estimated 560 vulnerable 11-16-year-olds.
