The Hargreaves Foundation supports Fulham Reach Boat Club

November 2024

The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are delighted to announce that Fulham Reach Boat Club (FRBC) has been granted funding for their project aimed at opening up leisure and work opportunities for disadvantaged young people in the watersports community.

Through school rowing courses, free holiday water sports activity weeks, and an active community sports club, FBRC’s objective is to promote physical activity for health and mental wellbeing, foster social connections and community cohesion, and instil a positive sense of identity so every individual can reach their full potential.

Their Reach Pathway Project supports young people aged 14-18 years-old from marginalised communities with the opportunity to participate and develop their passion for sport. Alongside multiple coached sessions a week, young people on the programme gain race and regatta experience, opportunities to volunteer and undertake work experience, obtain British Rowing qualifications, and be supported through mentoring sessions.

The club have already supported 1,200 young people from 11 local state partner schools in the past year, and feedback from their current pupils show that 76% would like to continue rowing. Funding from The Hargreaves Foundation will mean FBRC can fulfil this wish and enable eight young people to benefit from this project over a 12-month period.
