The Hargreaves Foundation supports Chances Educational Support Services

The Hargreaves Foundation is proud to announce funding has been awarded to Chances Educational Support Services to support the school’s short term alternative education program. The program targets students of secondary school age in Devon who are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream education.

Chances provides a safe and inclusive environment where students receive individualised academic and behavioural support, aiming to reintegrate them successfully into mainstream schools. The funding will cover program fees, transportation, and occasional costs like uniforms and school trips for five students per year over two years. The program includes core and vocational subjects following the National Curriculum, one-on-one behavioural and emotional management support, and a collaborative reintegration plan.

The program addresses the increasing number of school exclusions and the dire consequences for affected children, including poor mental health, low educational attainment, and increased involvement in criminal activity. Chances is unique in Devon for its focus on early intervention, resulting in high success rates.
