The Hargreaves Foundation supports Berkshire Vision

June 2024

The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to announce that funding has been awarded to Berkshire Vision, a charity offering inclusive sports and educational opportunities to visually impaired children living in Berkshire.

For over 110 years, Berkshire Vision have been committed to delivering inclusive, accessible services to visually impaired people of all ages and abilities. Working with a range of providers and venues to organise events that accommodate the differing needs of the Members, many of whom have disabilities alongside their eye condition, they host physical and educational activities, such as adventure parks, museum visits, or craft sessions.

The funding from The Hargreaves Foundation will support their Children, Young People & Families (CYPF) service, which offers a programme of activities, interventions and support for visually impaired children under the age of 18. On this programme, children can enjoy a range of adapted experiences, most with a tactile/sensory element, that improve their life opportunities and support their development in line with UNICEF’s Child Development and Communication Needs and Skills framework. Wherever appropriate, mainstream community venues are used to help build young people’s confidence to return there independently. It also allows the wider community to see visually impaired children pushing their boundaries and achieving as any other child might, as well as encouraging integration which benefits the whole society.
