The Trustees of The Hargreaves Foundation are pleased to announce funding for 9UP Community Interest Company, a Birmingham based organisation providing tailored programmes, expertise, and community trust to marginalised groups.
With the Birmingham area experiencing notable issues with violence, anti-social behaviour, and community disengagement, 9UP focus on supporting local children at risk of gang involvement, working with educational institutions to emphasise community inclusions through sports, fitness, and mentoring.
9UP will use funding from The Hargreaves Foundation to enhance their current programmes and launch more projects, proposing that activities will be designed to address the issues associated with violence and anti-social behaviour, and provide constructive outlets for their energy. Examples include Boxing, Freestyle Wrestling, Kickboxing, mentoring, and life skill workshops.
While there are existing services in the area that support young people, 9UP have identified a significant gap in out-of-school hours support. The additional hours they can provide during evenings and weekends will fill this gap when they might otherwise be unsupervised and at higher risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour.
